From one building to a hyperscale campus: keeping BIM coordinated
Dexterous editorial team · 21 October 2026
How shared coordinates, model boundaries, interface ownership and revision control support multidisciplinary BIM across data centre campuses.

Scale changes the information problem
A multi-building campus needs more than a larger federated model. Site infrastructure, individual buildings, repeatable modules and delivery phases must fit a consistent information structure. Agree model boundaries and interface ownership before teams begin detailed production.
Our team brings experience supporting 200 MW across multiple European campuses and buildings. That experience is presented at team level, with end-client names and project details kept confidential.
One coordinate strategy, clear ownership
Define the shared coordinate system, model origins and reference levels with the appointed design team. Test a small federation before rolling the arrangement out across disciplines. Record who approves reference changes and how each dependent model receives the update.
Repeated spaces are useful for standardisation, but each building still needs checks against its own constraints. Do not assume an accepted arrangement in one phase automatically works in another.
Review interfaces, not just clashes
Separate physical clashes from access, installation and operational concerns. Agree priorities and owners for each issue category. Review corridors, plant spaces, risers and infrastructure entry points with the teams responsible for delivery and maintenance.
A closed issue should have a clear resolution and a traceable model revision. A report with fewer clashes is not, by itself, evidence that every design interface is resolved.
Handover starts early
Set asset naming, classification and information requirements before modelling detail accelerates. Align the common data environment with the project’s approval process and package boundaries. For UK projects using ISO 19650 arrangements, follow the appointed team’s information-management requirements rather than adding a generic template late in the programme.
